Destiny Farm Paso
Finos is located in the beautiful Blue Ridge Mountains in Boone,
North Carolina. It is owned by Janet Norris and managed by Anthony
Long. Janet is a CPA who works at home and is thereby able to
spend a lot of time helping with the farm. Anthony has an Associates
of Applied Science degree in Equine Technology, a Diploma in Equine
Management, and a Certificate in Horse Husbandry. Together they
strive to breed and raise high quality Paso Finos with kind and
gentle dispositions. They have the bloodlines of Resorte IV, El
Duende, Alcon, Jaranero, Amadeus and Capachino, as well as Hilaches
and other foundation sires.
The Paso Fino is the oldest
true native breed of horse in the Western Hemisphere. On Columbus’second
voyage from Spain, he brought a mixture of Barb, Andalusian, and
Spanish Jennet to Santo Domingo. The Spanish Jennet possessed
an extremely comfortable saddle gait. The result of this blending
was the Paso Fino breed.

The Paso Fino gait is a four-beat lateral gait and natural to
all Paso Fino horses. Newborn foals take their first steps in
gait. The sequence of the footfall is right rear, right fore,
left rear, left fore and is rhythmic with equal time between hoofbeats.
There is very little up and down movement in the horse. This gait
is performed in three speeds, Fino, Corto and Largo. Collection
decreases as speed increases. The Paso Fino can perform a collected
canter or a relaxed lope as well.
The
Paso Fino is a very diverse horse. They excel not only in the
show ring, but on competitive trail rides, endurance rides, in
dressage work, rodeo gymkhana and back at the ranch working cattle.
And they do it all with a gait that provides unparalleled comfort
for the rider. The energy efficient Paso, with it’s versatility
and unique comfort for the rider, opens a new world for horse
lovers.
